What is identity? Can we choose our own? We will explore through journal writing, vignettes, drawing and topic-oriented testimonies how the notion of identity is often challenged by its own denizens and the body of politics. This is a multidisciplinary project-based series of four workshop sessions with emphasis on creative writing, storytelling, photography, collage and air-dry clay sculpting. It will culminate with a public exhibit of the process, a reading and a follow up with workshop participants to create a future anthology of visual art, poetry and short narrative. You have a point-of-view character and a story in mind. A world to throw him or her into. The first chapter of a novel or novella — or the opening scene of a short story — must grab a reader's attention to keep them reading. How do professional writers achieve this? Find out at this crime and noir fiction workshop devoted entirely to launching your tale and anchoring your readers in the suspense-driven DNA of your story world: the what, when, where, how, why and who. Admission is free.
