Big Read Logos DuoThe Bronx Writers Center, the literary program of the Bronx Council on the Arts, hosts The Big Read Weekend. Each event celebrates In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez.
 
Friday / May 4th / 3:30-5:30pm
Westchester Square Branch of the New York Public Library
Butterfly Making with Fran Marino, a hands-on free craft workshop. All ages.
 
Saturday, May 5th / 9:00am-10:00pm
Barnes & Noble Bay Plaza

2:00pm: Story Time with readers Dominic Colon of "The Electric Company" and Donna Drayton of NYS Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson's Office.
3:30-4:30pm: Write for Your Life hands-on writing workshop with Bronx Writers Center Director Maria Romano.
 
Saturday / May 5th / 1:00-3:00pm
Westchester Square Branch of the New York Public Library
Film Screening of Love in the Time of Cholera, based on the book by Gabriel García Márquez.
 
Sunday / May 6th / 3:00-5:00pm
This Side of Paradise at the Andrew Freedman Home
WordForward hosted by Flaco Navaja: Tell a story, perform a poem, spin a yarn, impress the audience and make it to the end of this fun and exciting competition for word lovers! The audience chooses the winner. Writers, poets and storytellers perform prepared work of no more than 3 minutes. Finalists are chosen to write and perform a flash piece on the spot, vying for the prize of WordForward Champion.Free tickets still available at http://wordforward562012.eventbrite.com.
